about jess

Jessica Grilli is a Melbourne-based documentary-style wedding photographer with an intuitive eye for the ephemeral and the subtle details.

Her approach is unobtrusive and deeply observant. She works quietly, blending into the background to capture weddings as they unfold. Intimate, honest, and full of emotion.

Working with both film and digital, she creates imagery that feels timeless and true. Endlessly curious, with film experiments spanning 35mm to medium format, her style doesn't fit neatly into any one box. That's exactly how she likes it.

Her couples describe her as warm, attentive, and effortlessly present. An observer who somehow notices everything. The kind of photographer who makes you forget the camera is there, and makes your guests feel relaxed and at ease.

"Jess felt like an extension of our wedding party. She was an absolute joy to have with us and would have been a welcome addition to our day even if she wasn't our brilliant photographer.”

creative inspiration

Jess is an avid film lover. Her favourite is The Red Shoes (Emeric Pressburger, Michael Powell), and she's drawn to directors like John Cassavetes, Wong Kar Wai, David Lynch, Agnès Varda, Mira Nair, and Hassan Hajj. Filmmakers who see emotion in the everyday and beauty in the imperfect.

Her photographic inspirations span Martin Parr, Malick Sidibé, Vivian Maier, Corinne Day, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Ernst Haas. Those who documented life as it happened, with warmth, curiosity, and an unflinching eye.

Music plays constantly in her world. Where to even begin.
